Marriages-Births-Deaths (Incomplete) from 1539 to 1852

This is the start of an ambitious project to place the entire parish records of Pentlow Church on the internet. This first instalment lists most of the deaths in the parish from 1539 to 1814. The original research was done due to the generosity of Sir Patrick and Lady Gillam, and the painstaking transcription from the manuscript to computer by GH, our resident historian.
It should be of interest to all families that have ancestors who lived here, but also contains a poignant primary record of plague, pestilence, and tragedy in a typical East-Anglian parish. You will notice whole families being entered into the record within months of each other, and years when the the sexton was kept busy digging graves.
Note well the persistence of many families in the parish over the centuries, often with distinctive local names such as Orbell, Turp, Mauldon, Crysall, Everard, Clarke, Goodaye, Kempe, Ballard, Settle and Deeks
